Some weddings feel like stepping into another world—where the scenery, the story, and the emotion all expand in the same moment. As a destination wedding videographer, I’m lucky to film celebrations in unforgettable places, but Amylee and Samantha’s wedding at OceanCliff Hotel in Newport, Rhode Island stands in a category of its own.
Their day blended oceanfront grandeur, deep love, and powerful family moments that shaped the heart of their film.

A Coastal Setting Made for Cinematic Storytelling
OceanCliff Hotel is the kind of location that makes a videographer stop and breathe for a second. Its sweeping lawns overlook Newport Harbor. The light hits the cliffs in soft gold. The ocean moves in steady rhythm beneath every moment.
It’s the dream environment for a destination wedding videographer—a place where scenery becomes a living character in the story.

A Love Story With Layers of Meaning
While the views were breathtaking, what made this film unforgettable were the emotional threads woven through the day:
Samantha’s surprise for Amylee
During the reception, Samantha unveiled a heart-stopping surprise: audio recordings from Amylee’s mother. When her voice filtered through the speakers, the entire room stilled. The moment felt tender, intimate, and deeply human. Editing that moment into the film felt like holding something sacred.
Amylee’s vows to Harper
Another defining moment came when Amylee spoke her vows directly to Samantha’s daughter, Harper. Her words carried raw emotion—promises not just to a partner, but to a family. Harper’s reaction, Samantha’s expression, and the soft ocean breeze all tied the moment together with sincerity.
A story that captured connection
This wasn’t simply a wedding between two people. It was the merging of histories, families, and futures. As a storyteller, that kind of depth shapes the entire creative approach.
How I Crafted Their Film as a Destination Wedding Videographer
From the very first frame, the goal was to create a film that felt expansive—mirroring both the landscape and the emotional scale of the day.
Cinematic scene-setting
We opened with the coastline. The cliffside light. The long pull of the ocean. These visuals created a sense of opening—like the first chapter of a novel.
Letting emotional audio guide the pacing
The snippets from Amylee’s mother became the film’s emotional anchor. Rather than layering them quickly, the pacing slowed. The visuals softened. These choices created space for the significance of the moment to land.
Capturing vows as the heart
When Amylee read her vows to Harper, I let the reactions breathe. Wide shots. Tight shots. The way light wrapped around them. All of it served the words.
Balancing grandeur and intimacy
One of the biggest strengths of filming at OceanCliff is contrast: sweeping landscapes paired with small, heartfelt moments. As a destination wedding videographer, that interplay is where the soul of a film lives.
A Wedding That Stays With You
Amylee and Samantha’s day was the perfect blend of breathtaking scenery and breathtaking emotion. The cliffs, the ocean, the sound of the wind—paired with surprise audio messages, heartfelt vows, and a love story that invited everyone in.
This film reminded me why I love destination weddings. Travel gives you the scenery. The couple gives you the heart. Together, they create something unforgettable.
