City Hall Rotunda Wedding: Sydney and Steve’s Interstellar-inspired film

book your wedding film

Some weddings feel like they unfold in a film. For Sydney and Steve and their City Hall Rotunda wedding, that story began long before their wedding day. They bonded over a shared love of adventure—both in life and in film. Their favorite movie? Interstellar. Its sweeping score by Hans Zimmer became the heartbeat of their wedding.

And as their wedding filmmaker, capturing that story was my honor.

The Vision: Immersive, Authentic, Cinematic

From the first concept meeting to the final edit, the goal was clear: to create a wedding film that was more than just documentation. For this kind of celebration, it needed to feel epic and personal at the same time. It needed to reflect their love of story, space, and each other—and also to feel like their day, uniquely.

The Venue: A Grand Stage for a Grand Love

The Cleveland City Hall Rotunda, with its marble, tall columns and elegant dome, provided exactly the sort of stage this love story deserved. The architecture brought gravitas. The lighting brought warmth. And the venue allowed us to film moments that felt both intimate and cinematic.

The Key Moment: Walking Down the Aisle to “Interstellar”

One of the most touching moments of the day came when Sydney walked down the aisle to the main theme of Interstellar. The choice was poetic: this music evokes wonder, vastness, and connection. In that moment, time seemed to still. Steve’s reaction was raw and honest. The room held its breath. The film captures that pause, that inhale, that emotional weight—and then the release of walking toward the next chapter. This type of push-and-pull style of storytelling was heavily teased in their trailer film, which I delivered two days after the wedding.

What Makes the Film Work

Pacing & Tone – We opened with quiet moments: close-ups of hands, smiles, the venue’s architectural details. Then the music built. The movement increased. The storytelling followed their timeline but with lyrical editing.

Emotion Over Perfection – We didn’t just film staged poses. We captured the glances, the laughter, the single tear. We filmed Steve watching Sydney, and Sydney watching Steve. Authentic. Soulful.

Visual Architecture – The venue’s grandeur became part of the story—not a backdrop, but a participant. Wide shots of the Rotunda’s dome. Details of light filtering through windows. The balance between human emotion and structural beauty.

Audio & Story Integration – The Interstellar theme was more than background music. It anchored the narrative. It underscored the sense of possibility in their journey together.

Immersive Storytelling – The film doesn’t just show “what happened,” it shows “how it felt.” That’s the difference I strive for at Catchlight Film & Photo Co..

Why It Matters

Weddings like this remind me why I do this work. When you merge meaningful details (a film score, a shared passion, a beautiful venue) with genuine love and connection, the result is storytelling gold. Sydney and Steve didn’t just hire a videographer—they entrusted me with capturing their essence. Their day wasn’t perfect in a manicured way—it was perfect because it was them. Effervescent. Authentic. Joyful. Soul-driven.

Looking Ahead

For couples planning their own wedding and seeking something more than “just video,” I hope this film inspires. Imagine your story, your passions, your quirks woven into your day. Imagine your venue as part of the narrative. Imagine a film that doesn’t fade away after the credits—but one you’ll return to again and again. If you’re looking for a videographer in Cleveland who values immersive storytelling, soulful authenticity, high-energy moments, and transparent collaboration—let’s talk.

Cleveland Wedding Videographer. Photographer. Eternal Optimist. Nostalgic Soul.

From Texas to Cleveland, I've always been a storyteller. I grew up taking photos of people and places on film. Yes, you read that right.

It was that long ago.

In 2023, I hung up my hat as a news reporter of 13 years and leaped into life as a Cleveland wedding videographer and photographer – the perfect fusion of two of my favorite things: telling stories and capturing moments.

I strive to infuse every frame with the warmth, joy and reverence your love deserves. Photography and filmmaking isn’t just a job to me. It's a privilege to capture the feelings and the beauty — the beacon your love radiates to everyone around you.
