Filming weddings is always a privilege, but when I got the chance to capture Steve and Katie’s wedding at Walden Retreats: Hill Country, it was extra special. As a Texas native who grew up just outside of Dallas, returning to the Lone Star State to do what I love most—filming weddings—was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
Steve & Katie’s Vision for Their Wedding Film
Steve and Katie had a clear vision for their wedding film: romantic yet energetic and upbeat; authentic and candid yet cinematically jaw-dropping. In the months leading up to the wedding, we collaborated extensively to ensure their final film would be a perfect fusion of their dreams and my storytelling style. Seeing their excitement when they watched their film for the first time made all the planning worth it!
A Picturesque Setting: The Texas Hill Country
Nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Walden Retreats provided the perfect backdrop for Steve and Katie’s wedding. The region is known for its rolling hills, vast open skies, and picturesque landscapes filled with rugged limestone cliffs, lush oak trees, and winding rivers. It’s a setting that embodies both rustic charm and refined beauty—making it an ideal spot for an intimate yet breathtaking wedding celebration.
A Day Filled with Love, Meaning, and Beautiful Simplicity
Steve and Katie’s wedding was a masterclass in timeless elegance. Their decor choices were simple yet stunning, allowing the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country to shine. Every detail, from the soft candlelit reception to the warm, earthy color palette, reflected their appreciation for understated beauty.
One of the most touching moments of the day was Steve’s heartfelt gift to Katie—a sonnet he wrote just for her. Because family is so important to the two of them, I took a creative approach when incorporating this into their wedding film. Rather than having Steve read it himself, I recorded each of his siblings reading a portion of the sonnet. This added a deeply personal and emotional layer to the final film, making it a moment that Katie (and their loved ones) will cherish forever. Check out the full film below.
